Getting a video editing suite working before a screening
Problems with the computer and the editing suite interrupted a documentary filmmaker’s work when only a few days remained before the screening. The priority was to restore the working environment as quickly as possible and make it possible to finish the film.
An unfinished documentary and a fixed deadline.
Technical problems halted the editing shortly before the planned screening.
In this situation there was no room for a long outage. The computer and the video editing software had to be treated as a single working unit and brought back to a usable state as quickly as possible.
Restoring work with the clock in mind.
A quick assessment of the situation
The first step was to find out what was preventing the editing from continuing and to focus on the obstacles with a direct impact on finishing the documentary.
Computer and editing suite
The help covered both the computer and the video editing software environment, so that the individual parts of the workflow fitted together again.
Confirming that work could continue
The goal was not just to get the equipment running, but to restore a state in which the filmmaker could actually continue editing.
Remove the obstacle first, deal with the rest later.
The fixed deadline changed the order of work. What mattered was not making every possible improvement, but safely restoring access to the project in progress and confirming that editing could continue.
An intervention like this requires separating the fault with a direct impact from improvements that can be planned later. I apply the same principle in the initial diagnosis of other technical incidents.
Editing could continue and the documentary was finished on time.
Getting the equipment working quickly removed the obstacle a few days before the screening and made it possible to finish the work in progress on schedule.
“A few days before the screening of my documentary, technical problems with my computer and editing suite made it impossible for me to continue working. Mr Vodička promptly got the equipment working, which allowed me to continue editing and finish the documentary on time.”
